01 · Challenge

The challenge

Two Shell-branded station sites, one in the U.S. Southwest and one in the Pacific Northwest, each needed low-voltage service gear. At the Southwest site: 2000A at 480Y/277V in one outdoor lineup, with a utility pull section, utility metering and two main breakers. At the Northwest site: 1200A at 208Y/120V, as an outdoor service board with a utility CT compartment plus an indoor distribution board. DEI’s customers of record were Uptime EV Charger, for the Southwest gear, and McGill Electric, for both Northwest boards.

02 · Build

What DEI built

For the Southwest site, 2000A UL 891 low-voltage switchgear at 480Y/277V, 65 kAIC: six sections in a NEMA 3R outdoor enclosure with tin-plated aluminum bus, a utility pull section and utility metering, a 1200A LSIG main with Dynamic Arc Flash Sentry, an 800A LS main and nine Siemens 3VA distribution breakers. For the Northwest site, two 1200A UL 891 low-voltage switchboards at 208Y/120V, 65 kAIC, with tin-plated aluminum bus: a two-section NEMA 3R service board with a Siemens 3VA LSIG main, Dynamic Arc Flash Sentry and a utility CT compartment, and a NEMA 1 indoor distribution board with main lugs only and 14 Siemens distribution breakers.
